Delhi-based Everest Group is proud to be associated with country's landmark project of extracting potable water from the sea. It leveraged its in –depth expertise in vacuum pumping systems for this challenging task.

Enthusiastic troika of company's directors YASH PAL KAPUR, RAJESH MALHOTRA AND AMIT KAPUR unveil their strategy to reinvent the organization in an e-mail interview with DR RANJIT SINGH.

EVEREST TRANSMISSION
Air Blowers and Vacuum Pumping Systems
Q.1 Early Beginnings

Everest group was engaged in design, manufacture of machine tools and “Everest” make precision lathe machine was preferred choice of the industry. The promoters then had a vision to make specialized equipment and import- substitute, as during that Era there were lot of restrictions on imports of capital goods and cumbersome license “Raj” was dominant.

In Mayapuri Industrial Area, a new set-up was started for design, manufacture, testing and marketing.

Everest group diversified into design and manufacture of Twin Lobe Blowers way back in1980, as there were hardly any manufacturer in India for this type positive displacement blowers.

Q.2 Milestones

Since inception, keeping up to vision, we at Everest are continually introducing new concepts and products for which we enjoyed many “First time in India” Product and Services such as:
  • Air Blower for Aqua Culture and Hatcheries.
  • Vacuum Blowers for Mobile Truck Suckers.
  • Oil Free Blowers with air wash for Electro Plating Industry.
  • Vacuum Boosters for CO2 laser at Centre for Advance Technology (CAT), Indore .
  • Mechanical Vapor Recompression for steam compression.
  • Mechanical Vacuum Booster for Chemical Plants.
Vacuum Pumping system for Low Temperature Thermal Desalination process developed for the first time in the world by scientist at National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai.

Q.3
Menu of current products and services

Presently our product range consists of Twin Lobe Blowers, Mechanical Vapor Recompressor and Vacuum Booster. Apart from the above products, we have team of application engineers who offer solutions to customer's individual needs.

Our task has been tough, but had enjoyed, since it keeps us on our toes always. We are continually upgrading our technical skills and enhancing our manufacturing techniques to meet the ever- growing perfection needs of the industry.

Q.4
The Project You are Most Proud of

Our most significant recent achievement is design, manufacture and erection of complete vacuum system for Low Temperature Thermal Desalination Plant which was set up by National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai for conversion of sea water to potable water, using low temperature evaporation principle. All the heat demand for evaporation was met by marine thermal energy, making the process one of its type in the world.

First production plant was installed in Kavaratti Island , Capital of Lakshdweep Island for a capacity of 0.1MLD (million litre per day). Thereafter, another plant of 1MLD was commissioned offshore near Ennore. In both the plants, the complete vacuum system was designed and manufactured by Everest and we are all proud to be a part of the NIOT Team.

Q.5
Other Remarks

India today, has emerged as a strong economy and is recognized by the world for its size, growth and capability. It is an important member of the global economy with a population of 1 billion-plus and the largest middle-class consumer base. The service sector and manufacturing sectors have seen growth of around 9%, which is among the highest, next to China and Brazil .

Indian engineers, scientists &skilled man-power are available at reasonable cost. The earlier stigma of “ MADE IN INDIA ” has been eliminated by the much improved quality of Indian product. This has made India emerge as auto manufacturing hub in Asia and almost all world auto manufacturers have set up their manufacturing base in India .

This is turn has resulted, Indian companies to go in for state of art technology, further improving the process and production. We are part of the growing economy and are enjoying the same benefits. In fact, for the last 5 years, have had growth of more than 26% per annum in terms of numbers and almost 30% per annum in terms of value. We are very optimistic for the coming years, as we are an established, reputed and a known brand.

Q.6
Impact of US Economy Slowdown

There is a slow down in the US Economy. In today's global era, no economy is isolated and as all are interlinked, effects of slowdown are evident. In fact, today the Indian rupee is its strongest with respect to US dollar @ 40.61, a record high in past nineteen years.

We feel that the impact of US economy slow down is marginal on the Indian economy and it shall be able to smoothly sail through.

We are working with number of foreign companies for collaboration and in fact are experiencing a reverse trend, wherein manufacturers of advanced countries are keen to tie up with Indian firms. They see a huge growing market in India , which is today quality conscious and tuned for better services and product.

Q.7
Future Scenario

Indian Service Industry has attracted the most attention, as Indian outfits have taken advantage of telecommunication, advertisement and the population proficiency in English. It has played a growing role in the global outsourcing boom including Software, Finance, Medical care and Call Centres. These opportunities have created a strong middle class with modern views and needs. The Urban India is moving at a fast rate and we expect an exponential growth and demand for product and services

General Awareness, Quality Consciousness and Reliability Expectations of the consumers and customers is increasing, forcing the manufacturers to produce quality products.

Stiff competition is forcing all manufacturers to evolve new market strategies for reaching out economically and effectively to the customers. Customers choice, reaction, feedback are finding an important role in deciding the market strategy.

Since, these factors largely influence customer's buying pattern, every manufacturer is putting in maximum efforts for customer satisfaction which is today an essential element of marketing. Today, all customers have a choice for the alternative and companies have to perform both in product, quality and services to retain them.

Q.8 Strategy to Stay Ahead.

We at Everest are also working out various policies keeping in mind the customer as foremost. We are very hopeful that in the coming years, we shall be able to diversify into new products and technologies and are targeting for 100% growth in the coming 3 years.

Q.9 Your Wish-list on Policy Front.

We are still emerging economy and have yet to overcome lot of hurdles . Some of these can be listed as:
  • Infrastructure development –Roads , Transports, Housing, Power etc.
  • Health & Education Sector.
  • Political stability and maturity where policies are carefully planned and implemented and not politically motivated.
  • Elimination of Interstate trade barriers.
  • Reformation of labour laws for disciplined, skilled and productive labour.
